“I Sold My Property To Set Up Crescent University” -Prince Bola Ajibola

Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Prince Abdul-Jabbar Bolasodun Adesumbo Ajibola SAN, KBE, LL.D, D.LITT, CFR, is a man of many parts. The legal luminary, a former Nigerian High Commissioner to Britain, is an international adjudicator, a mediator of first rate importance, an ambassador, a peace negotiator, a humanitarian, a devout Muslim, and an accomplished man. Last week was the 6th convocation ceremony of his Crescent University in Abeokuta , Ogun State. Crescent Iniversity is an Islamic school founded by Prince Bola Ajibola, it was established as a private university by the Islamic Mission for Africa IMA in consonance with her doctrine and vision.


The operating licence from the Federal Government was obtained from the National Universities Commission in 2005. The mission of the University is to ensure the delivery of University education in ways that recognize personal discipline and integrity and promote positive societal values. In 2002, the Educational Board of the Islamic Mission for Africa IMA recommended the establishment of Crescent University, Abeokuta. In 2003, the Academic Brief Committee set up submitted its recommendation to IMA. The National Universities Commission approved the establishment of the University in 2005, and it commenced her academic programme in December 2005.

At its 6th convocation ceremony, where notable Nigerians like the Emir of Gummi, Justice Lawal Hassan Gummi, Erelu Kuti IV of Lagos, Erelu Abiola Dosunmu and a foreigner President Dersaid Turkey, Dr. Haci Kutlu were awarded honourary degrees, the founder, President board of trustees, Prince Ajibola took guests back memory lane to the days when he was struggling to set up an Islamic school, he said, “ the vision started some 64 years ago, I realized that a faith based education was the best, having attended a Christian school myself, at the time nurturing my vision therefore I reckoned that if the Owu Baptist Mission School and the Baptist Boys High School could achieve the feat it did with us 64 years ago I could also do it as enshrined in Islamic faith. Lack of good morals is the bane of our society, and that is the missing link in our education today, here we believe that the fear of god should go with academic excellence, this is what stands us out from other institutions in the entire country, a child is just like the young of any animal, crude and untamed, it is the society that is responsible for tutoring him to be civilized.

Getting to where we are today was by no mean task, and to actualize my vision, I had to sell my property until now when I have nothing more to sell, but to the glory of almighty Allah, our efforts are now being blessed with resounding success IMA International Group of Schools, starting from the nursery School, it later developed into a co educational college, we realized that it was necessary to catch them young, we believe that the breeding of a well nurtured citizen should start from the very beginning, we then employed competent hands in western and Islamic education, and IMA College was founded on pedestal of excellence in morals and academics. Crescent University is the apex of our noble vision where training and guidance in morals and the fear of god will be completed having already produced five sets of graduands before today.
Our university can conveniently answer questions any university worth its salts must answer, and our products are doing well in major companies in Nigeria and outside the country”.
