Will Messi win another Ballon d’or?

Lionel Messi has won the last three FIFA Ballon d'Or trophies and is the favourite to lift his fourth (fifth in a row counting the 2009 Ballon d'Or before it merged with FIFA's award), despite his side's limp showing in the Champions League semi-finals versus Bayern Munich.

The Argentine striker had a quiet season to many outside of Spain, with injury problems preventing the world from seeing him dominate the latter stages of the Champions League as we're so used to seeing him do.

Domestically, though, Messi was in rampant form netting an incredible 46 goals, 12 goals more than the next top goal scorer Ronaldo, who netted 34. His 46 goals were at an incredible rate of 1.44 goals per game, an
unbelievable return that helped Barcelona romp to regain the La Liga title from domestic rivals Real Madrid.
